Hashkama # 58 - Lunch is Served
You are what you eat. Well, that’s what some people say. Is there any truth in this statement?
What shall we have for lunch today? It’s been a busy day, how about rat? Warm up a can of rat curry, something quick and easy. I wonder if this is what they serve our hard working MP’s in Parliament. Interesting thought!
We are to pray for our leaders, and if we pray according to God’s will, He answers accordingly. We have that assurance in Scripture. So what is wrong? Why are we not seeing answers to this particular prayer? Churches throughout the land have prayed over the centuries for the leaders of this country. What is happening today is that we have leaders that are resistant to God’s grace in their lives. Like bugs have become resistant to antibiotics, leaders have become resistant to the goodness and grace of our God.
I am writing this during the Christian Easter weekend. It is the time when we should be thanking God for providing the sacrificial Lamb, the Lord Jesus, Who gave His life that we might live.
Lamb indeed has been in the news, but not the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world (John 1:29). The lamb in question is no lamb at all. In fact, it could be rat, or cat, or dog, who knows? Takeaways are selling lamb dishes containing unidentified meats, raising fears that flesh from rats, dogs and cats could be in our curries and kebabs. So if you are in Birmingham or London, look before you eat!
A study by the Food Standards Agency, and another study by consumer group Which? suggest the supermarket horsemeat scandal of just over one year ago, is not over and that food fraud is still rife on the high street. The Which? analysis of 60 lamb dishes found 29 were ‘suspect’, 17 contained different meats, seven contained no lamb at all and five had meat that could not be identified.
The substitute meat for the lamb might have looked like lamb to the unsuspecting, and when you have ordered lamb you don’t expect to be served up with rat, cat or dog. But that appears to be what is happening. Perhaps the element of surprise is part of the modern day service? Things are not always what they seem! I remember during a family holiday in Turkey where most of the time we took our nourishments at Turkish establishments, but on just one occasion we ate at a restaurant where the waitresses were all English. The owner spoke with an American accent and it all seemed kosher. I had mince beef with my meal, and went on to suffer the most awful upset stomach afterwards. I have always suspected the ‘beef’ mince was actually meat from some other creature and not cow. Britain, desperate not to be different from the rest of the world, appears to have caught up with the practice of surprise! Surprise! Guess what your meat really is? Well, we are multicultural aren’t we? Apparently, a result of our multiculturalism is that the cuisine is more interesting – if not quite in the way we would like it to be. Some of our MP’s might have cheered the lamb fake-away entrepreneur on, rather than rat on him for his obvious fraud.
It is not only what we take into our stomachs that is a problem, so too is what we absorb through our minds and imbibe in our spirits. This same weekend that we should be glorifying God and thanking Him, and after David Cameron referred to Britain as a Christian country 55 mainly atheist public figures including leading scientists, authors, academics, oh yes, and comedians want us to know that Britain is not a Christian Country. These great minds all thinking alike, sent an open letter to the Daily Telegraph, which they published on Easter Monday. The signatories included the authors Philip Pullman and Sir Terry Pratchett; broadcasters Dan Snow and Nick Ross, performer Tim Minchin, journalist Polly Toynbee, the philosopher AC Grayling; and the gay rights activist Peter Tatchell (named after the Pope!). Can you smell a rat? The letter these ‘men of renown’ sent was organised by Professor Jim Al-Khalili, the theoretical physicist and science broadcaster and President of the British Humanist Association. Rather than feeding on the Lamb of God they want us to swallow rat, cat, and dog—humanism and secular humanism, the dark destroyer of the soul.
How strange it is that these intelligent influential people remained silent concerning the unmerciful slaughter of Drummer Lee Rigby by two Islamists; and didn’t pipe up at all while David Cameron spoke about the virtues of Islam. It is only now when Cameron speaks in a rare positive way about Christianity that they raise their gruesome heads. The Charity Commission has warned that Islamist extremism is the “most deadly” problem it faces and is urging the government to introduce laws to prevent convicted terrorists from setting up charitable organisations. They are “sending cash to extremist groups in Syria” or “dispatching young Britons for training in Syria by al-Qaeda or other extremist groups”. Why have these clever people, ‘the magnificent 50’, not spoken out about this deadly problem infiltrating society? Why did they not speak out about the Islamic covert take-over of schools in Birmingham? Or why did they not raise their voices at the ‘unequal’ treatment of women in Islam? Perhaps they are more concerned with keeping their gruesome heads on their equally gruesome necks! They can be hacked-off with Christianity without getting their heads hacked off—whereas Islam is a different story perhaps. The real reason is that Christianity is different and the God of the Christians is the true God. The gods of any other religion can be manipulated and made to serve human minds and whims, but the God of the Bible is to be obeyed! They do not want a holy God in their unholy lives!
They claim to be concerned about our society and say that calling Britain a “Christian country” sows seeds of dangerous division. Look at the division homosexuality has caused since it has been legalised. Christians have lost their jobs by speaking about what the Bible teaches because homosexuals object. The organisations Christian Concern and the Christian Institute are constantly fighting cases for Christians that have been dismissed from their jobs, or refused to have homosexuals sharing a bed in their hotel. The most recent report I have seen is of a Christian nursery nurse who claims she lost her job answering a question after being pressed about her beliefs, and saying that homosexuality is not condoned by God. Supporting her in her case, Andrea Williams, said the government had “seriously let down" Christians and criticised David Cameron for attempting to "mould Christianity to his political agenda”. See the article at: http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2014/apr/20/christian-nursery-worker-...
The letter by Professor Jim Al-Khalili and supporters states: “We are a plural society with citizens with a range of perspectives and a largely non-religious society. To constantly claim otherwise fosters alienation and division in our society.” They trot out more rot than I did when I suffered from my bad stomach! To use an Americanism, running to the ‘John’ has become a Western pastime from times past, where a number of ‘Johns’ were involved. There was Jean-Jacques Rousseau, John Stuart Mill, Jean-Paul Sartre, John Dewey, John Lennon, and John Steinbeck. These towering infernos or men of great importance, helped to unravel Western civilisation.
- John Lock and Jean-Jacques Rousseau setting the scene for modern political philosophy
- Jean-Paul Sartre influenced the arena of culture and entertainment
- John Dewey was the father of modern, secular education
- John Lennon and his group of Beatles sold more albums than any other musical group in the history of mass media.
They each inherited 1500 years of Christian thinking and culture. They were born into ‘Christian’ families in Europe or America and they were all representative leaders in the great apostasy of the Western world. Quite a legacy don’t you think?
It was after the 15th Century that a religion or faith commitment called ‘Humanism’ worked its way onto the meal table of Western thought processes. It was a highly organised religion, complete with sacraments, institutions, buildings, ethical systems, social theories, and cultural emanations.
We have looked in previous articles at how Christianity made an indelible impact on language, art, architecture, music, education, hospitals and healthcare, charity, science, political freedoms, the treatment of women, and respect for human life. With Christianity came the elimination of pagan practices like widow-burning, child sacrifice, and chattel slavery. Christian burials replaced cremation. Cannibalism ceased as did homosexuality. Body mutilation and tattoos were unknown. Then, after a thousand years or so, at the break of the 20th Century, everything changed.
The Western world has lost any meaningful faith in the resurrection of Jesus Christ
The ascendancy of Humanism has adversely impacted language, dress, art, music, education, hospitals, the NHS and healthcare, science, political freedoms, economics, the neglect of meeting together to worship God with people preferring Sunday shopping (church attendance in England declining from 60 % to 6% or less in 150 years. The number of Christians have fallen by 4.1million over the last 10 years); and there is the loss of respect for human life. Back has come child-sacrifice in the form of abortion and termination of pregnancy, cremation has all but replaced Christian burial. There is the wholesale acceptance of homosexuality in our schools, colleges and universities, and in the media. The Church has largely succumbed to this ungodly teaching too. Homosexuality is commonplace even among our politicians. There have been cases of cannibalism, and vampirism is popular. There is an increasing desire and pressure to kill off our old people (the serial killer Dr Harold Shipman’s Euthanasia). Divorce is a popular pastime these days. Witchcraft and Satanism are accepted religions. The most popular children’s book series of the 20th Century concerns a fictional hero named Harry Potter who is immersed in witchcraft and trained by a homosexual. More people celebrate Halloween than the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Women are being exploited with most not even realising so. Body mutilation and self-harm has increased in modern times along with tattoos. We are on one massive downward spiral. There has been a macro-cultural shift away from the Christian faith, and much of this has taken place within just the last thirty years!
There is no better or more effective way to radicalise a nation with new ideas than by infiltrating the educational systems. That has happened in our Education system and universities. Each generation has been overturned by powerful men in the Western civilisation by corrupting the minds of the pastors, priests, political leaders and teachers, and this being achieved through our universities and colleges. The American education system has moved from “In Adam’s fall, We sinned all” to “Heather Has Two Daddies”.
The world of music has moved from Johann Sebastian Bach’s chorales in 1700 to Eminem’s popular “rape rap” in 2000. From Puritan leaders such as John Winthrop and Oliver Cromwell we have secular humanist leaders such as Josef Stalin, and todays Barak Obama—and look where that has got America!
Indeed, the great thinkers, philosophers and teachers have brought nothing positive to the human race, but have robbed and are robbing people of all that is good. Marx’s daughter committed suicide, and Rousseau abandoned his five children on the steps of an orphanage, great examples to us all! Ernest Hemingway wanted to kill his father and then took his own life. It is Christian apostates that have led the way to today’s apostasy. The great philosophers who received and swallowed something of the old humanism from the classical Greek and Roman world, having digested it, regurgitated it into a version of humanism to fit the Christianised West. You see this in the lives of Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Jeremy Bentham, John Stuart Mill, Karl Marx, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Charles Darwin, and John Dewey.
A summary of the differences between Christianity and humanism includes
Christians believe in the sovereignty of God:
- God is the ultimate authority in truth.
- God is the ultimate authority in reality.
- God is the ultimate authority in law.
- God is the ultimate source of man’s salvation.
- God must be the centre of man’s life and worship.
Humanism counters with its own basic presuppositions, asserting the sovereignty of man:
- Man is the ultimate authority in truth.
- Man is the ultimate authority in reality.
- Man is the ultimate authority in law.
- Man is the ultimate source of man’s salvation.
- Man must be the centre of man’s life and worship.
The 55 great names that signed the letter of complaint to the Daily Telegraph need not be concerned. Cameron’s Christianity is not the Biblical Christianity that they have a phobia about. Cameron’s Christianity is of the humanistic variety with a god that one can manipulate and whose teaching one can change to fit one’s political direction and ambitions. Cameron’s Christianity is in effect Cameron’s Curse on the nation. It is a fake Christianity without Christ; and it is a Christianity being used to destroy true Biblical faith.
They (the 55+1) are all in effect batting on the same side. Both sides were right in their argument. The Prime Minister is correct statistically, historically and culturally. The United Kingdom has been explicitly Christian for more than a thousand years; and although the self-identification of Christians in Britain is declining, 59 per cent described themselves as such in the latest census. On the other hand, the angry atheists are accurate in their statement that “we are a largely non-religious society”.
Britain has swallowed the deception of secular humanism, false religions and New Age philosophy. All that stuff is in the belly of our nation’s soul and is bursting out and will destroy us. Almost in parabolic fashion, a story emerged this same weekend about a snake that ate a centipede, and the centipede in turn ate the snake. It happened in Macedonia last year. A group of researchers came across the snake during a field study. Both creatures were dead, and the researchers came to the conclusion that the snake had swallowed the centipede alive, and that the centipede had eaten its way though and burst out of the viper’s stomach in a last ditch attempt to escape. The snake killed the centipede and the centipede killed what had swallowed it—the snake! You can see pictures of it at: http://www.livescience.com/44878-centipede-bursts-from-snakes-stomach.html
Jesus said some inconvenient truths for those that want a religion but not God. He said for instance, “You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they?” (Matthew 7:16) God does not contradict Himself. He does not condemn homosexuality and then tell David Cameron to legalise and sanction same-sex marriage as Mr Cameron has done, and in the process trivialised and de-Christianised our greatest social bond. A true follower of Jesus would refuse to introduce such legislation, even as Prime Minister. A follower of Jesus would sooner step down from his position than compromise God’s Word.
“Any manipulation of the Scriptures to make them speak peace to the natural man is evil and can only lead to ruin.” – A. W. Tozer
The Church is failing to counter the vain philosophies of this world and the false teaching that has infiltrated the Church. Our prayer is for God to raise up men and women of faith, obedience, courage, conviction and vision, and for centres of true Biblical teaching to be set up in towns and villages around the nation, where the uncompromised Word of God is taught and lived out—Centres where the name of Jesus/Yeshua is honoured and worshiped in Spirit and in Truth.
Someone once said: “There are those who make things happen, those who watch things happen, and those who wonder what happened.”
The Bible: “My people are cut off, destroyed, for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I will also reject you, so you will not be a priest to Me. Seeing you have forgotten the Torah (Teaching) of your God, I shall also forget your children” (Hosea 4:6 – One New Man Bible).
Blessings and shalom,
